Devil Music, The Conversions, Undecided Youth, Abraham Lincoln Brigade

My theory is that, of all the non-bandmembers and non-parents at MassArt on January 28th, 2006, I was the oldest. Yeah, I said non-parents: some of the people at this show were 9 years old, some younger, and these ones brought their parents. One of the band’s oldest members was 13.

Abraham Lincoln Brigade

A freeform jazz ensemble. Noisy with moments of sudden coherency. Everyone loved ‘em.

Undecided Youth

Junior high punk. Someone clearly taught them well because they started off with a Clash cover (“Should I Stay or Should I Go?”). Their original songs reminded me of Evanescence, whom I don’t like, but oh well. They also had timing problems but everyone that age does. If they were old enough to know better I’d be more critical but considering their inexperience it’s safe to say that they’ll be great when they’re old enough to play a bigger venue.

The Conversions

A young, loud punk band. Lots of energy—so much energy that the drumkit scooted about 10 feet into the audience.

Devil Music

This was their CD release (Matt bought the CD since I couldn’t afford it) so they arranged the whole thing. Their idea was to take three bands they’ve never heard before and have them perform, putting them on equal footing with most of the audience.

They do a rocking punk set, then add in Alex (age 9) on guitar to do a surf rock style. Both funny and fun.
